Description

Celebrating our 5th year, As If Theatre Company is back and better than ever with The Kenmore Quickies - Play It By Ear! Eight playwrights, eight directors and 14 actors come together to bring their talents to the stage for 4 performances, August 8-10, 2025.

As we celebrate a half-decade of memorable play festivals, it's only fitting that we shine a spotlight on a true local hero: our resident sound designer and fellow Kenmore resident, William French. Each of the 8 plays will be inspired by a piece of original music created especially for As If Theatre from one of their nine main stage productions.

At a rousing Quick-Off Party June 9th at Copperworks Distilling our local playwrights were randomly assigned their cast and director, given a limited number of props to use (or not use - we're not monsters), and chose their mystery musical prompt. The playwrights are now sequestered for 4 weeks to devise their original script. Upon the deadline, the playwrights will hand off their script to the director, and their cast will rehearse for 2 weeks prior to opening night.

Each evening, audience members will vote for the Audience Favorite Award, which will be presented after Sunday's performance, while a panel of 3 judges will determine the Critics Choice Award.

Funny, serious, a bit strange, and downright weird are all adjectives that can be used to describe this event.  Plus one heckuva good time!

This popular event plays at the historic Kenmore Community Club located right in the heart of Brewery Row, which backs up to the Burke-Gilman Trail. Walk, bike, roll, or stroll down to the KCC to celebrate the weird and the wonderful!

As If Theatre Company

In the long-standing debate, “Does art imitate life or does life imitate art?” As If Theatre Company consciously chooses the latter. We want our art to instill within you hope and laughter, conflict and resolution, empathy and awareness, and a deeper understanding of yourself and others.

We are committed to bringing engaging, challenging, and entertaining theater to the community just north of Seattle. Our company believes that theater is community and together we can tell stories that inspire thought, engage conversations, and join all of us together to tell a bigger story. Passionate and dedicated, As If Theater Company’s ultimate goal is to change our small piece of the world for the better.

Performing at the historic Kenmore Community Club, As If Theatre Company was started by local theater artists, Cindy Giese French, Amy Gentry, and Molly Hall, who wanted to create an artistic home in the Northend. As a burgeoning city without a theater group, Kenmore was the ideal location to call home.

So come along. Play with us.
